first_imgRangers conceded a late equaliser to end their run of clean sheets but Gerrard believes his new-look defence have proven themselves formidable. He added: “There’s going to be times when your backs are against the wall but that’s the reason we’ve brought in leaders like Allan McGregor, when you need him to be big, he’s big.“The two centre-halves have been outstanding.“Now people are fearing us and know we’re not a soft touch. Not many teams will come here who are as good as them.” Gerrard said: “Ryan Jack, I’m jealous of his performance as a midfielder, I thought it was stunning.“I’d watched him from the outside and was aware of his big move and how it had come about but it’s not until you get up close to players that you see what they’re about.“I think I’ve got a good type on my hands, a player who cares and is willing to go out on the pitch and do exactly what’s asked of him.“He made one minor mistake in 90 minutes, this is a kid who’s missed six months at the back end of last season so I’m delighted with Ryan’s performance.” Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said he was jealous of Ryan Jack’s “stunning” midfield display in the 1-1 draw with Osijek. The Light Blues progressed to set up a third-round Europa League qualifying tie with Maribor after preserving their first leg lead at Ibrox.Gerrard was considered amongst Europe’s top midfield performers during the height of his playing days for Liverpool. Now watching on from the sidelines, he was full of praise for Jack’s showing in the centre of the park for his new charges.last_img read more
