The PetroCaribe Energy Cooperation Agreement signed on 29 June 2005 by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and President Chavez allows for the provision of gasoline, diesel and liquid petroleum gas to Dominica.In commemoration of this 10 year anniversary, PetroCaribe has launched a program of activities spanning five weeks to commence this week. “Our company is an important vehicle for fulfilling the mission of the PetroCaribe agreement under the premises fair trade, solidarity social justice and common will to develop,” general manager of PDV Caribe Dominica Ltd Henry Blanco stated.He added that the PetroCaribe initiative, which is the “only true initiative” that developing countries have to get “secure and reliable access to energy sources, will continue to be beneficial to countries like Dominica.Mr Blanco congratulated Prime Minister Skerrit and the President Chavez for their vision “and the fruit we now can enjoy in significant ways”.“As this bilateral relationship continues to develop, we look forward with eagerness to a harvest of bounty for the citizens of our countries,” Blanco continued.Meanwhile Minster of Lands, Housing, Settlements and Water Resource Management Reginald Austrie noted that “we do not take a strong appreciation of the impact that PetroCaribe has had on the people and on the economy and on the country”. Among the projects funded by PetroCaribe and highlighted by Minister Austrie He listed several projects funded by Petro Caribe including the Soufriere sea defense wall, Tan Tan sea defense wall, Salybia Primary School and the Rosalie to Petit Soufriere road.He further stated when the agreement was signed in 2005 there was a lot of negative speculation but “now it is being hailed as one of the most serious economic programs in the region over the last 25 years”.Minister Austrie added that through the PetroCaribe agreement, Dominica’s social, infrastructural and economic landscape has been transformed.center_img Share Sharing is caring!
