NASA center holds an essay contest

first_imgEDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE – Youngsters can win a NASA flight jacket and other prizes in a national history competition for students in grades five through 12 sponsored by NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center. NASA Dryden’s education office is celebrating the center’s 60th anniversary with a poster and essay contest. Participants select a research project, a person who made a significant contribution, or a technical advancement in NASA Dryden’s history, then write an essay and design a poster. Sample topics may be found at: Students in grade five through eight are required to submit a typed essay of between 1,000 and 1,200 words, while submissions from grades nine through 12 should range from 1,500 to 1,750 words. The essays will be judged on creativity, focus and grammar. First prize winners for each age group will receive a NASA flight jacket, a mahogany model of a NASA aircraft and an autographed photo of a NASA research pilot. Second place winners will receive a NASA flight jacket and autographed photo of a research pilot. Third place prizes are a mahogany model and an autographed photo.
